The NAFEMS World Congress 2015, being held in San Diego, California from 21st to 24th June 2015, will host the 2nd International Conference on Simulation Process and Data Management. After an astounding response to the first event in Salzburg, Austria in 2013 this groundbreaking event will bring together industrial users, technology experts, academics and software vendors alike, allowing all those with an interest to take part in the only truly independent, international forum dedicated to SPDM.

Attendees, speakers and exhibitors have free access to both events under one registration.

Call for Papers

NAFEMS invites you to share your innovative applications and SPDM related case studies and experiences with other leading minds in the community. Submit your paper today to present at the 2015 SPDM Conference, which will be part of the NAFEMS World Congress, covering a wide-range of topics that address every aspect of both SPDM and engineering simulation in a full 3-day program.

9am EDT, 6am PDT, 2pm BST, 3pm CEST

**Two Session Online Training Course - 2 hours per session**
one session per week

Take this course either by attending live sessions, or viewing recordings at your own convenience

Engineering Board PDH Credits - 4 Hours*

Structural engineers often need to resort to more sophisticated thermal fluid simulations to obtain boundary conditions, loading, performance, etc. for their designs and analyses. Additionally, many engineering problems include strong interaction between structure and fluid.

This course aims to introduce the essential principles of fluid dynamics, important flow phenomena, and basics of CFD process to structural engineers and how CFD can be beneficial for their multidisciplinary problems.

The CFD for Structural Designers and Analysts course provides the principles of fluid dynamics, turbulence, and heat transfer relevant to structural analyses. The material include simple and practical examples and case studies.

Course syllabus breakdown

  • Background to loads and boundary Condition calculation in structural analysis
  • Coupling between Structural and CFD simulation
  • Definitions and governing principles of fluid dynamics
  • Flow classifications
  • Important concepts and phenomena
  • Introduction to CFD
  • Turbulence
  • Introduction to heat transfer
  • Review of typical project analysis requirements and the processes available

who should attend?

The target audience for this course is structural engineers, designers, and analysts aiming to incorporate CFD into their everyday practice. Structural engineers not directly using CFD, who need to work with or support CFD analysts will greatly benefit from this course.
